AI tool guides

Independent, honest AI tool guides: how to choose, evaluate and get value from AI software.

Our guides explain how to choose an AI tool well — the durable method, not a leaderboard that ages in a quarter. They start from the AI Tool Atlas Framework, our seven-factor evaluation method, and apply it to the decisions buyers actually face: how to evaluate a tool before you buy, and what 'free' really means across writing, coding, automation, video and image generation.

Every guide follows the same discipline as the rest of the site. We publish the criteria and the method so you can reproduce our reasoning, we name only verifiable facts, and we honest-degrade — saying 'unverified' or 'check the vendor's page' — rather than inventing pricing, ratings or benchmark numbers. As of June 2026 we have not completed hands-on benchmarks of every tool, and our guides say so plainly.

Frequently asked questions

How does AI Tool Atlas decide what to recommend?

We apply one published framework — seven weighted factors — to every tool, show our working, and publish no overall rating for a factor we have not verified. The method is the asset: you can read it, disagree with our weighting, and re-score for your own priorities.

Do you accept payment for better placement?

No. Tools cannot pay for a better assessment. Some links may become partner links in future, but we have wired none today, and several tools we cover have no affiliate program at all. Our guides are written the same way regardless of commercial relationship.

Where should I start?

Read the AI Tool Atlas Framework to understand how we evaluate tools, then use the buyer's checklist before you subscribe to anything. If budget is the constraint, the free-tools guide explains what 'free' actually covers and where the limits hide.
